Petrie is one of the district's oldest centres. It grew from Tom Petrie's Murrumba homestead and a coach stop on the North Pine River, and was known as North Pine until 1911. The paper mill east of the station opened in 1957 and closed in 2013. Its site is now The Mill at Moreton Bay, anchored by the UniSC Moreton Bay campus, which opened in 2020. Kurwongbah, to the west, is a semi-rural locality around Lake Kurwongbah.
What patio suits a Petrie home?
Petrie's housing mostly dates from the 1970s urbanisation that followed the mill, so there are plenty of established low-set homes with ageing patios that are ready to re-roof or replace. Kurwongbah is a different job: bigger semi-rural lots where a freestanding gable patio, a verandah or a combined carport for a boat or caravan is common.
Do I need approval for a patio in Petrie?
Petrie sits on the North Pine River, which flooded in February–March 2022: Seqwater's event report records North Pine Dam releases peaking at 1,534 m³/s. If you're near the river or a creek line, get Council's Flood Check report before you design. Structures in High or Medium risk flood areas need a Council development application, not just a building permit. On Kurwongbah acreage the planning settings differ from suburban lots, and bushfire mapping may apply to treed blocks. My Property Look Up shows both.

What does a patio cost in Petrie?
For a Petrie re-roof, the existing frame's condition decides most of the price. If a river-flat lot needs a Council development application because of flood mapping, add the application fee and time. Kurwongbah's freestanding structures cost more per square metre because they need their own engineered footings.
Published Brisbane-area ranges put an insulated-panel patio roof at about $350–$750 per m² installed. Cost guide · Estimate yours →
Petrie patio questions
Does flood mapping stop me building a patio in Petrie?
Not necessarily, but it changes the process. In a High or Medium risk flood hazard area Council's information sheet says a development application is required, and the design must not obstruct flood flows. In lower-risk areas a certifier can usually approve it directly.
What suits a Kurwongbah acreage block?
Freestanding gable patios, verandahs and combined carport-patio structures are common because there is room and side access. Larger structures need engineering for wind, and rural-zone setbacks are bigger than suburban ones.
