Kippa-Ring takes its name from an Aboriginal bora ring near Klinger Road. It's largely a suburb of the 1960s and 70s: its primary school opened in 1960 and the Kippa-Ring Village and Peninsula Fair shopping centres in 1974–75. Rothwell followed in the 1980s and 90s. It's named after the chair of the committee that planted the Anzac Avenue memorial trees in 1924. Since October 2016 Kippa-Ring has been the terminus of the Redcliffe Peninsula rail line.
What patio suits a Kippa-Ring home?
Expect older low-set homes in Kippa-Ring and 1980s–90s brick homes in Rothwell, with a canal estate in Kippa-Ring's north. Older homes often have low eaves, which suits a flyover patio, or a re-roof of an existing patio with insulated panels. On canal-front lots the patio usually faces the water.
Do I need approval for a patio in Kippa-Ring?
Council's outbuildings information sheet (which covers class 10a structures) sets a 4.5 m setback from a canal to the outermost projection. Kippa-Ring is also within the Redcliffe Kippa-Ring local plan, which has its own precincts, including a Kippa-Ring village/station precinct and an interim residential precinct. Your certifier applies whichever code covers your lot. Rothwell's western edge is wetland next to Hays Inlet, so lots there can carry environmental or coastal mapping.

Canal-front and inland streets
Canal-front and northern lots are closest to salt water; inland streets around the station are more sheltered. Peninsula-wide salt-air, storm-tide and body corporate notes are on our Redcliffe Peninsula hub.
What does a patio cost in Kippa-Ring?
Older Kippa-Ring homes often need a flyover to get height above a low gutter, which costs more than a fascia-mounted skillion. On canal lots, the 4.5 m setback limits depth, so the patio tends to be wider rather than deeper.
Published Brisbane-area ranges put an insulated-panel patio roof at about $350–$750 per m² installed. Cost guide · Estimate yours →
Kippa-Ring patio questions
How close to my canal can a patio go?
Council's outbuildings sheet sets a 4.5 m setback from a canal to the outermost projection of the structure. A design closer than that needs Council approval, which isn't guaranteed. Your certifier confirms the measurement point from the survey.
Does the Redcliffe Kippa-Ring local plan affect a patio?
It sets the zoning and precinct rules for much of the peninsula. For an ordinary patio on a house in a residential precinct the outcome is usually the same as elsewhere, but the certifier assesses it against the local plan's code.
